Kickass lies in the sunshine

Kickass, the doorstop dog, indulges the keeper in an effusive expression of appreciation to those who labor in the health care field as they take us by the hand and explain that in all likelihood we will survive, in spite of ourselves.  Within this vast system of increasing tech and record imposed impersonality, the individuals are not swallowed up.  They emerge constantly out of the rigid structures to do what needs to be done with warm hands and hearts.

Her name is Annie Sugar, and when she saw something that needed to be done, though it was outside of her area of responsibility and even contrary to procedural norms, she simply went ahead and did it, as simple as that.  Annie is one of thousands in the UW Health Care System, and she would be embarrassed to be singled out, even in this remote corner.

Annie’s casual accommodation did not directly benefit the keeper, but witnessing it was like drinking a moral tonic.  It came as a bop over the head to clear out recent smog and to raise a fist to salute being a member of the human race.  Kickass is okay with that and suggests that maybe the keeper should do as dogs do and spend more time lying in the sunshine.
